The impact of HCI on the society,Economy and Culture

Since 1970 a lot has changed because of HCI, families used to spend a lot of time together and do outdoor activities but now we shut our self's from everyone else, spending time with technology.

1970:
Children would normally play with bored games, the family would also sit down together to watch TV. The reason of this would be because the children had nothing to do in there rooms anymore so the only other option would be to sit down with everyone in front of the TV.
Washing and cleaning become a much harder task, there was nothing to help you. You would have to wash dishes by hand and cleaning clothes was much longer task (Around 2 hours).
You would have to use a pressure cooker to cook meals this would take a lot of your time away from you.
A common activity for children during this time would be to ride a bike instead of being sat down using technology.

1980:
During this time cooking became a lot easier because of the microwave, This aloud you to have more time to do other things. At this point of time technology was focus on entertainment and children would have had pocket size technology. This aloud them to have something of there own this was the start of children driving away from the family because of technology and spending time on there own. Families would have a VHS within the household but it would not work very well.
Cooking became easier during the late 80's because microwave meals became a common things and people would no longer need to spend a lot of time cooking after work.

So from 1970's and spending a lot of time together as a family, the start of being on your own accrued during the 1980's because of the pocket size technology. But daily things had became easier such as cooking.

1990:
TV's where common to have in every room separating the family even more. Handheld technology became much better pushing everyone away from each other more and more.Consoles became a part of households with Mario and sonic having a big part in the entertainment industry.During these years computers became much more powerful and was changing every fast. At the late 90's the living room became more of a adult room where adults would have fun.People would start to use the internet and email was open to everyone.
A great thing that had happened near the end of the 90's was that people began to have mobile phones, this allowed people to communicate a lot easier. This helped for when children went out and could contact there parents. (This made going out more safe).

Impact on daily life:
From the timeline you can see the daily life was effected a lot, as more portable technology came out like laptops and phones work become much easier. Cooking was effected as well, from preparing a meal all day in the 1970's to being able to chuck in a microwave meal after work in the 90's.
Children life's were also effected, going from playing outside and being very active in the 70's to then staying indoors and playing on electronics in the late 90's but homework was also made easier for them as the growth of HCI was happening.

Impact on the economy:
From being able to work at home because of laptops/computers and the internet this allowed people to work longer hours compared to the 70's.
The biggest impact is that machinery could take over some jobs for example in factory's this aloud companies to produce there products at a much faster rate.
Shops normally have an online site as well to purchase products, this makes it easy for anyone to shop, where as in the 70's you would have to go out the way to shop.

Impact on culture:
Technology has changed allot of ways we used to do things, we used to go to libraries for information but now most people will just look it up on the internet.Writing letter was a big way of communicating but now we mostly do it through emails online. So the biggest change is that most of the things we used to do it now all do able online and much easier to use.
Children also tend to know more about technology than anyone else but in the 70's/80's that would have not been the case. The way people decide to relax is also different now, instead of sitting back and ready most people sit back and play games or watch online videos.

Impact on personal/family time:
The family would spend a lot of time around the TV and playing bored games but as time went on and hand held technology was released people would start to separate in the family and spend time in there own room. Most of the time now children spend time in there room playing games and only see there parents when going down stairs to get something.
It's like technology is apart of are life's this includes personal and family time.
